API Terms of Use
Last updated: April 2026
These API Terms of Use govern access to and use of the Gardeo API. They supplement the general Terms of Service. By generating an API key or making API requests, you agree to these terms.
1. Scope
The Gardeo API provides programmatic access to Gardeo's AI platform features, including chat completions, PII pseudonymization, document management, and project operations. These terms apply to all API usage, whether through official SDKs, direct HTTP requests, or third-party integrations.
2. Authentication and API Keys
Access to the API requires a valid API key generated through your Gardeo account. API keys are bound to your organization and inherit the permissions and plan limitations of your subscription.
You are solely responsible for keeping your API keys secure. Do not share API keys in public repositories, client-side code, or unsecured environments. If you suspect an API key has been compromised, revoke it immediately through your account settings.
We reserve the right to revoke API keys that are found to be compromised or used in violation of these terms.
3. Rate Limits and Quotas
API requests are subject to rate limits and quotas based on your subscription plan. Current rate limits are documented in the API documentation and may be adjusted with prior notice.
Exceeding rate limits will result in HTTP 429 responses. Your application should implement appropriate retry logic with exponential backoff. Deliberately circumventing rate limits is prohibited and may result in API access suspension.
4. Permitted Use
The API may be used to integrate Gardeo's AI capabilities into your applications, workflows, and services. All usage must comply with the general Terms of Service and Fair Use Policy.
You must not use the API to: build a competing AI platform, systematically extract or scrape model outputs for training purposes, bypass PII pseudonymization controls, or provide unauthenticated public access to Gardeo's AI models.
5. Data Protection
All data submitted through the API is subject to the same privacy protections as data submitted through the web interface, including automatic PII pseudonymization. API requests are processed in the EU and governed by our Privacy Policy and DPA.
You are responsible for ensuring that data submitted through the API complies with applicable data protection laws. When processing personal data of third parties through the API, you must have an appropriate legal basis.
6. Availability
We strive to maintain high API availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Planned maintenance will be announced in advance where possible. For Enterprise customers, specific SLA terms may be defined in your individual agreement.
7. Liability
API responses are provided without warranty. AI-generated outputs may contain errors or inaccuracies. You are solely responsible for validating API responses before using them in production. Gardeo's liability for API-related claims is limited as set forth in the general Terms of Service.
8. API Versioning and Changes
We may update the API with new features, modify existing endpoints, or deprecate functionality. Breaking changes will be communicated at least 30 days in advance. Deprecated API versions will remain available for a reasonable transition period.
9. Termination
API access may be suspended or terminated in accordance with the general Terms of Service. Upon termination, all API keys associated with your account will be revoked. You should implement appropriate error handling for authentication failures in your applications.
